Made With Purpose, Born to Thrive

The excitement is growing…. the feels are real… the thoughts are never ending. The more I center my thoughts around why I write here and create my printables, the clearer my vision is… I know that I have been made with purpose.  In two days I will be making the trip out to Indiana for The Influence Networks 2014 Influence Conference, and the network has always held the intention of providing community amongst like minded women who want to make their online life mean something.  As I have been preparing myself for this highly anticipated conference I popped on my amazon music app and came across a song that just struck a chord. I started to get that lump in the throat you get right before you choke up and let some tears out. It just seemed to have come on at the exact moment I needed, and The Lord knew I needed to hear it.  I was thinking of the women I will be meeting, the friendships I will foster, the community we will build, the purpose we have been made for… We were made for so much more than ordinary lives…we were made to Thrive!

The song Thrive by Casting Crowns is the song I am referencing. You may or may not have heard it before. I encourage you to listen to the words. =) I absolutely fell in love with the song. So much so that I had to make up a printable to place on my desk to remind me I was made for so much more.

DIY Vinyl on Travel Apothecary Jars

In one short week I will be on a plane on my way to beautiful Indianapolis to attend the Influence Conference. While getting myself ready to start my packing, I ended up doing a Target and Ulta run and picked up some travel items.  {more on my ulta haul later for my new updated mommy makeup routine} Target had these larger Travel Apothecary Jars in their travel section for .97 each and I immediately snatched up a bunch and just knew I wanted to do a DIY Vinyl project with them.  I love how these DIY Vinyl Travel Apothecary Jars turned out so much that I figured I would give you all the files to make your own! I have created .PNG and .SVG files for those who can or can not cut one or the other. To grab the freebie files click here. >> Travel Apothecary Vinyl Project If you use my files, and snap/share on a social platform I would love to see how yours turn out! Influence Network Meet & Greet 2014

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen some recent posts of mine that pertain to going to The Influence Network’s Influence Conference. Next week I will be flying out to attend this highly anticipated conference, where I will finally meet face to face “my people”, and together we will learn how to to use our influence to praise the Lord.

The Influence Network’s core is community. Women who are faith filled, creatives that are attending the Influence Conference next we were invited to post 3 meet + greet snippets [either on their blog or instagram] in order to introduce themselves and make connections!

IMG_3391.JPGA little Introduction.

My name is Tina Milas.  I am a wife of 9 years to my super soulmate Christopher, and together we have our two miracle babies [fertility induced] Olivia Autumn and Julien Alexander. I am a self taught graphic and stationery designer. I created my original company Invitations of Elegance in 2006 which has since blossomed into Zoo Cutie Printables.  I absolutely love anything to do with owls, paper and handmade goodness.

A part of the conference I am excited about.

Honestly anticipating the entire experience has me simply bursting at the seams with excitement, but to narrow it down would be connecting with these like-minded women face to face and being able to hug-squeeze them finally!

One thing I wouldn’t leave home without.

This is a tuffy for me as I have so many things I always have as a must take…but I would say the two things I would never leave home without would be my daily planner with my UniBall Signo 207 pens and my quick mommy makeup must haves [to keep me looking fresh and awake, of course!]

PF Chang Inspired Lettuce Wraps

Being a little over 5 months post op from bariatric surgery, I find myself struggling when it comes to dinner time. Dinner time has become a battle for me as I feel as though I am a personal chef. The Milas Munchkins are picky, picky eaters and Chris likes his favorites such as steak and potatoes, meatloaf and mashed… pure comfort foods… mmmm comfort foods! So in addition to the three of them, I  have to make something healthy, light in carbohydrates and high in protein for me. You can see why I feel as though I am a personal chef. ;o)

I spent the past week strategically looking for some recipes that we could enjoy as a family, and last night these PF Chang Inspired Lettuce Wraps were a hit!

I adapted the original recipe from Food.com

These PF Chang Inspired Lettuce Wraps were devoured within 30 minutes. I was surprised that the kiddos didn’t even request some sort of condiment to drowned the food in… they were that good, my friends! These will be making a staple in our menu lineup for sure.

Tropical Paradise Protein Smoothie

Good Morning! If you follow me on instagram, you may or may not have seen a snapshot of one of my absolute favorite protein smoothies at the moment. There is just something about the island feel of this Tropical Paradise Protein Smoothie that has my taste buds smitten. Could it be the delicious combination of pineapple, peaches, bananas, mango and berries? Or perhaps it is the finishing touches of whipped coconut cream and organic unsweetened coconut flakes… Tropical-Smoothie-Pinable---Zoo-Cutie-PRintables

Being almost 4 months post op from weight loss surgery, I still find it so much easier to get my protein in by way of smoothies and or parfaits. I am always trying to come up with new smoothie recipes that pack a powerful protein and fiber punch and this Tropical Paradise Protein Smoothie has definitely moved to the top of my list.

DIY Drawer Organizer

drawer-divider-pinnable---zoo-cutie-printables

I have always been a gal that gets so excited about trips to home organizing stores, and the abundance of cute and practical prettiness that comes in the form of bins, baskets, sorters etc. However, I am also an avid DIYer that gets a thrill out of saving money and creating something all of my own, that is of course in my style. Several weeks ago I snagged an AWESOME executive desk from a local thrift shop and gave it a pretty face lift. {reveal to come soon!} As the hubby and I are purging our home to get ready for a move that is hopefully in the near future, one of the things I decided to give up was my makeup vanity. I figured I could just do my makeup at my desk since I spend most of my morning routine upstairs by our office anyways. I ran into one problem… the makeup organizer that I currently had wasn’t working out well with the drawer that I wanted my makeup in.  Everything was jumbled together and I had to pull the drawer out really far to get to things that I needed that were behind the first organizer….FRUSTRATING and NOT pretty!

Before I knew it I was searching The Container Store site and Amazon to find a longer, prettier organizing makeup tray. With no luck for the size drawer that I had I made it my goal this past week to create my very own custom DIY Drawer Organizer. After finishing and seeing my results I want to create a DIY Drawer Organizer for every drawer in my home! If you would like to see
how you can create your very own DIY Drawer Organizer for whatever you may sorting and organizing, I have outlined the steps below for you!

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Tape Measure
  • Ruler or T-Square
  • Pencil
  • Craft Knife or Box Cutter
  • Foam Board
  • Fabric {quantity needed will be determined by the size of drawers you have} in one to two prints.
  • Spray Adhesive
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue

STEP 1: MEASURE YOUR DRAWERS WIDTH, HEIGHT AND DEPTH.

I made sure to measure the dimensions as close as I could as this measurement will make your DIY Drawer Organizer fit snuggly inside of your drawer so you will not have to glue it to the furniture.

STEP 2: TAKE THE WIDTH AND DEPTH MEASUREMENTS AND MARK THEM ON A PIECE OF FOAM BOARD. {This will be the bottom of your DIY Drawer Organizer}

diy-drawers-one---zoo-cutie-printables

STEP 3: MEASURE, MARK  & CUT OUT THE WIDTH AND HEIGHT {minus .25″} OF THE DRAWER ONTO A PIECE OF FOAM BOARD X 2. {These will be your front and back pieces to your DIY Drawer Organizer}

I subtracted a .25″ off of the height from the drawer because the bottom piece of foam board is a thickness of approximately .25″, and you will want your drawers to shut!

STEP 4: MEASURE, MARK & CUT OUT THE DEPTH AND HEIGHT {minus .25″} OF THE DRAWER ONTO A PIECE OF FOAM BOARD X 2. {These will be your left and right sides to your DIY Drawer Organizer}diy-drawers-two---zoo-cutie-printables

STEP 5: TEST THE BOTTOM, SIDES, FRONT AND BACK INSIDE THE DRAWER TO MAKE SURE THEY FIT.

STEP 6: LAY OUT YOUR FABRIC UNDERNEATH THE FOAM BOARD THAT IS THE BOTTOM PIECE AND CUT AROUND IT LEAVING AN INCH BORDER.drawer-dividers-four---zoo-cutie-printables

STEP 7: TAKE YOUR SPRAY ADHESIVE AND LIBERALLY SPRAY ONE SIDE OF THE BOTTOM PIECE OF FOAM BOARD AND THEN PRESS ONTO THE FABRIC.

Make sure to press and rub all of the air bubbles out right away so you do not get wrinkles in your liner! drawer-dividers-six---zoo-cutie-printables

STEP 8: SPRAY ALONG THE EDGES OF THE BACK OF THE FOAM BOARD AND PRESS THE BORDER OF FABRIC DOWN.

STEP 9: LAY OUT YOUR SIDES, FRONT AND BACK ON FABRIC AND MEASURE OUT THE WIDTH, AND THEN THE HEIGHT X 2.

You will be “wrapping these pieces so there won’t be a visible seam on the top.drawer dividers 6 - zoo cutie printables.jpg

STEP 10: SPRAY ADHESIVE ON BOTH SIDES OF ALL PIECES AND THEN WRAP, PRESS AND RUB WRINKLES OUT.

STEP 11: PLACE ALL PIECES INTO DRAWER. FIRST BOTTOM, THEN BACK, THEN SIDES THEN FRONT. IT SHOULD BE VERY SNUG!drawer-dividers-seven---zoo-cutie-printables

STEP 12: FROM HERE YOU CAN DESIGN YOUR DIVIDERS. FIGURE OUT HOW MANY CUBBIES YOU WANT AND HOW BIG YOU WANT THEM. MEASURE FROM THE INSIDE OF YOUR FRAME FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND FRONT TO BACK DEPENDING ON WHICH WAY YOU WANT YOUR DIVIDERS TO GO.

For my makeup drawer I made two vertical pieces which are on the left and right side. I then made smaller cubbies for the center by taking the measurement between both long vertical pieces which gave me one horizontal divider. Next I measured out the distance from where I wanted my horizontal divider to the front of my organizer which gave me two mini vertical dividers. Lastly I measured from the single horizontal divider to the back of my organizer and that yielded one vertical divider. With these four pieces I hot glued them to each other to give them more stability once placed inside the organizer. They are free floating from the main structure so should I want to change up the spacing I can without having to make an entire organizer all over again.

If you are wondering why the bottom is teal and not the pink paisley print above, it is because the pink paisley drawer is being used for my office supplies. =)

I am absolutely LOVING my new DIY Drawer Organizer as the pop of color makes me happy and of course seeing everything within seconds of opening the drawer makes my daily morning routine that much faster, which is what every mama needs right?!

If you create your very own custom DIY Drawer Organizer I would love to see it! Simply use #ZooCutiePrintables on instagram and I will pop by and leave you some love!
